Lauren Filer Leaves on a Three-Year Contract With Durham

Ahead of Durham’s inaugural season as a Tier 1 women’s county in 2025, England fast bowler Lauren Filer has signed a three-year contract.

Filer, the quickest bowler in England’s current lineup, joins her international teammate Mady Villiers as another noteworthy addition to Durham, who have replaced Northern Diamonds of Headingley as the team representing the north in the new women’s domestic league.

The 23-year-old Filer made her debut in a notoriously tough Test match at Trent Bridge last summer, which cemented her place in the international game. She has represented England in 17 different formats, although she was not selected for the T20 World Cup in the UAE this month.

She went via Somerset’s system to get to Durham. Since signing her first professional contract in 2020, she has made 41 appearances for Western Storm; her best performance, 3 for 8, came in the Charlotte Edwards Cup this season.

She has previously represented Welsh Fire, London Spirit, and Manchester Originals in the Women’s Hundred. During the most recent ODI series against Ireland in Belfast, she recorded an England-best 3 for 10.

Durham is a beautiful city, and I have many wonderful cricketing memories. “The club’s overall values—which include everything I believe is essential for a prosperous and healthy environment—were vital to my decision to go up to the North East.

“It’s critical to maintain the women’s game’s momentum following the restructuring of the women’s structure, and I think Durham has the infrastructure and support to do so. It’s thrilling to see what we can accomplish with this idea and the really brilliant group of females we have.”

“We are delighted to have signed one of the most exciting young fast bowlers in England,” stated Durham’s director of cricket, Marcus North.
